Say goodbye to those single use pollutant plastics that end up in our landfills and oceans. It’s time to replace them! As of now this decision is left up to business owners and customers, we wish to change that by providing solutions for all.

Plastic takes between 500 – 1000 years to degrade. When single use plastics are disposed only 5% are recycled. Every year, 8 million metric tons of plastic end up in our oceans. Basically, every single plastic item thrown away is still here contaminating our planet. Studies now predict that by the year 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans!

Essentially we are surrounded by plastic.

Given the current state of affairs, we believe that there isn’t any time left for corporations or governments to make these sustainability decisions alone. We all have a responsibility to fight as hard as we can for our planet. We believe the way forward is working together to be better. The time is now, make the Swtch.

WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO

Ishani Mitra, Co-Founder

“The idea for EcoSwtch came to me when I realized how many countries had started banning single-use plastic. I went to a restaurant that evening with my family that was still using plastic and I asked them what they were going to do about the ban. I was surprised to hear that they were more than willing to switch to eco-friendly products but they didn’t know if there were any local sources and couldn’t afford to ship it from other countries or even cities for their daily usage. Similarly, I heard complaints from the local wooden spoon and cloth bag vendors saying they weren’t getting enough business for these products and were starting to stock plastic again. I felt that I had been presented with this situation and Greta Thunberg’s words rang in my mind “I am here to tell you that change is coming, whether you like it or not” and it made me want to do whatever I can to play a part in bringing about this youth-driven change in climate action.”

As a young adult in today’s world, I am well aware that the climate change crisis is very real and that we no longer have the luxury of time. We need to make as many changes as we possibly can. I strongly believe that if we each do our part we can make a difference.

In my personal life I try to be as green and eco-friendly as possible and I am excited to provide a resource for everyone to use, to connect them with the resources around them and affect change. My motivation is simple; this planet is our home and we have a responsibility to take care of it. If your house was a mess you wouldn’t wait for your neighbour to come clean it up, so what are we waiting for? Lets get our brooms and mops out and get to work.
